Are Your Friends Sabotaging Your Success?

by Wolf Benedict on January 13, 2010

Who are your REAL friends?

This is a bigger question than you may realize and it DIRECTLY affects your success in making money online and pretty much anything else. I’ll get back to this question a bit
later in this email. But let it stick in the back of your mind as you read this.

Today I want to talk to you a bit about something that is often
overlooked not only in marketing, but in life in general.

I bring this topic up because I got a question the other day and it
got me thinking quite a bit about the quality of people and
circumstances of my life. It also got me thinking of an attribute
of life most people don’t really make a part of them. I’ll get to
this a bit later in this email, be patient. :-)

The question that got me thinking was simply this:

“Why do I have to purchase an application from you in order to work
with you or see what your business is all about?”

It’s a great question, because it addresses an attribute that has
more relevance and importance in your own life than most people
realize. What attribute is it?

To answer this, let’s delve into the overall theme of YOUR life.
I’ll start with your immediate circle of influence (the people you
spend time with regularly).

Ask yourself – what kind of people are in your life right now? Do
they fit your idea of positive, uplifting people? Do they want to
see you succeed? Are they supportive of your goals? Are your
friends your idea of real friends?

Or do you find yourself feeling “stuck” around them, held back by
an almost invisible force of negativity, skepticism and hesitation?

If the latter is the case, I’d invite you to ask yourself:

Is being around people who hold you back or keep you down really in
your best interest?

If you’re honest, you’ll realize – of course not! But many of us
are in self-denial due to becoming comfortable (to a degree) with
other people’s negativity. We would rather tolerate the discomfort
of negativity than have dissent with our friends, because… well,
they are our friends, right?

And we wouldn’t want to upset our friends - they’re our friends for a REASON… right?

But if you give it a careful look, you’ll see that subjecting
yourself to the negativity of your “friends” is doing nothing but
sucking your energy dry. If you’ve ever been around a negative
person for long enough, you’ll know what I mean.

Do you have a friend like this? If you do, either show them a
better way, limit your contact with them or GET RID OF THEM
IMMEDIATELY.

I know that sounds harsh and cold, but what benefit is it to have
someone in your life who is negative all the time, tries to scare
you out of what you are doing, is a “Dream Stealer” and doesn’t
support you with positivity?

Now note something important here: it’s okay to be open to
criticism, and you SHOULD be. Don’t go overboard, cutting everyone
out of your life who disagrees with you. Nobody is perfect. Your
friends can support you, but they can also point out flaws within
you. The key here is to be able to make a distinction between the
two.

Jim Rohn and Chris Widener, in their co-authored book Twelve
Pillars
, puts it best. They talk about how the people you
habitually associate with influence who you are:

“You place every person you meet into one of three categories:
Disassociation, Limited Association, and Expanded Association.”

It’s up to you to decide who goes where based on how they affect
you.

But just remember, if you become comfortable with perpetual
negativity born of others, you have SETTLED at best and robbed
yourself of your goals at worst.

Now I promised I would discuss the attribute which addresses
everything we’ve covered so far. It’s an attribute that most people
don’t address in their lives out of guilt, social pressure,
thinking they can’t change, and a whole bunch of other “reasons.”

The attribute I’m talking about here is QUALITY.

What is quality?

For me, quality is simply holding yourself, and others, to a higher
standard of living.

The QUALITY of your circumstances determines your fulfillment. It
determines what you go for, what you avoid, and how you do certain
things.

It influences who you spend your time with, how much you spend with
them, what kind of attention you spend on yourself and how much you
spend out of your own pocket. Quality is a matter of “spending”!

“So what does this have to do with the application thing you
mentioned at the beginning, Wolf?”

The application has to do with demanding a better quality of person
in my life!

Now I’m not saying you should go out there and insist people fill
out an application to be friends with you (LOL). I hope you
understand that part!

I have an application in place for my business because it helps
screen out most of the tire kickers who are not really that serious
about starting their own business. It also screens out those
looking for a free ride and ensures that I am only dealing with
highly qualified, amicable and motivated entrepreneurs.

If I didn’t have this screening process in place we would literally
have thousands of people crawling over each other to get started
with me every week.

And this would INSTANTLY lower the quality not only of the people I
allow to be in my circle, but it would degrade the most precious
“commodity”, which is TIME.

And time is EVERYTHING. Ask yourself, do you have everything you want?
You can’t have everything you want without time, and you can’t have
time without getting your quality standards straight. They are
inter-related.

There is much more to quality as it relates to time and we’ll go
over this in future messages.

So I invite you to ask yourself – where in your own life is your
quality suffering? What kind of people do you spend time with? What
is your living environment like? Do you eat high quality food? What
is the quality of your basic thoughts?

What kinds of STANDARDS have you set for yourself and which ones
have you achieved?

How can you raise the quality of your living TODAY? All very
important questions you deserve to address right now.

Do some honest introspection and work on the quality of your life.

And if you want to increase the quality of your life IMMEDIATELY in
all areas of your life, then you deserve to take a look here:

http://www.hypertracker.com/go/30daymarketing/thankyoupage/quality_blog_post

I believe with all of my heart it will increase the quality of your
life if you let it.

Respectfully,

Wolf

I applied to almost 20 colleges.. and I used the Common App. for a lot of them. Unfortunately, they all required essays. But here are some schools that have no application fee:

–University of Scranton

You know the good feeling you get when you think about how your computer is running all the time, or that you’ve been careful to clip six-pack rings all your life? Well, soon you might have one more warm fuzzy feeling, if this project underway at Intel Labs Berkeley comes through. They’re designing portable air-quality sensors that monitor and sample the air around you throughout the day and allow it to be shared and analyzed later.

It is based on your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). When filling out the from make sure to report all income that is on your taxes. I never have any cash on hand, in my checking account or in my savings account. You may get some then. You just make too much for what they clasify as financial need. If you had kids, you would probably get it easily. I am 19 and have to claim my parents income. There are 6 people in the family with about 45,000 a year. That is about 7,500 per person. I have an EFC of 1919. Hope that helps.

Sorry, just read the other answer about it being loans. It is not, there are grants that do not have to be payed back. I have learned about a lot of this stuff through personal experience.

I am an entrepreneur and I went to college and got my MBA. The business courses are a good foundation for understanding the building blocks of business. However, I cannot say I use them in my every day dealings as an entrepreneur. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs I have met have little more than a high school education. The best way to find out if owning your own business is for you, is to start one while you are in school. You will be able to apply your classroom knowledge into your business and I think you will find success at both!

Firstly, Sweden is no longer the home of safety.
As many car manufacturers utilise developing technologies the playing field is a lot more even these days.

Volvo have always used safety as a design influence, in the same way as Ferrari have always used performance and Land Rover have always used off road ability.
However, in the modern market where safety and economy have become more influencial to most buyers, manufacturers have adapted and focused more on safety performance.
This is why more and more vehicles are getting top ratings.

The second important point to make is that the regulations that govern vehicle safety are constantly being updated.
As with any legislation they are regularly revised and ammended to match new learning and new technologies.
Consumer assosciations also update their rating systems regularly. EuroNCAP are moving to a 6 star rating system within the next 3 years

The third key factor is that the safety ratings that the buying public see are relatively subjective.

A 5 star rating from EuroNCAP means that the vehicle has passed the EuroNCAP tests to an acceptable standard.
As these tests all require the occupants to wear seatbelts, and US Federal tests require some of the tests to be performed without a seatbelt, a vehicle that does well by European standards may not be rated as highly in North America.

As EuroNCAP and NHTSA (National Highways and Transportation Safety Authority) are both consumer associations rather than legal authorities they do not directly control the regulations that affect vehicle safety laws.

Also we need to consider that the ratings we see are overall ratings, and unless you see the breakdown of these (available on the websites of the different consumer associations) you do not know how safe the vehicle really is.
A car With EuroNCAP 4 star rating may be excellent for protecting those driving it, but very aggressive towards pedestrians it may impact, as a result the overall rating of the vehicle will be reduced.
Added to the fact that the testing is performed in a like-to-like scenario, small cars with a good rating would still not perform well versus bigger cars (the Smart is a prime example of this).

In short, the standards are constantly being updated, but manufacturers can tailor their cars to meet the regulations and consumer tests without necessarily making the car genuinely safer.

The basic laws of physics need to be applied as well as the consumer testing ratings the buying public sees.
Bigger, heavier vehicles will protect the occupants better than smaller, lighter vehicles.

Psychology also involves neurology, it analyzes how the brain functions chemically and physically. Without the study of Biology we wouldn't have the information to support genetic correlations for mental illnesses, nor we we understand diagnosing and medicating such illnesses (although that also involves Chemistry). Biology is necessary to support Psychology.
