Google Slap! How to Appease the Google God and Get Your Marketing Groove Back Part 2

by Wolf Benedict on February 17, 2010

So you’ve been Google slapped and don’t know what to do about it. Here is the second part of our three-part article series that provides solutions on how to prevent or overcome a Google slap.

In the last part, we mentioned 4 reasons why Google may have frowned upon your site and suspended or banned you for life. They were:

1) Duplicate websites

2) Affiliate websites (including those “salesletter” ones you see)

3) “Review” websites that were actually a slick salesletter (or had affiliate links)

4) Websites with limited or unoriginal content

We went over the first two in the last article. We will discuss number 3 now.

Number 3 – Have you ever been to a so-called “review” site only to discover they were really selling the very thing you were attempting to find a non-biased review on? There were thousands of these kinds of pages everywhere on Google.

If you read part one of this article series, you’ll probably be able to guess why this doesn’t fly with Google anymore. The users are looking for reviews, not salesletters for the product disguised as a review. Google’s userbase complained on a mass scale about the lack of REAL reviews and the search engine monarch reacted.

If you do have a review site and still want it to get to the top of Google AND you are really selling something that is UNbiased, here are a few recommendations:

1) Have a prominent NON-affiliate link next to your affiliate link. Explain to users that they should only click on the affiliate link if they feel the review was helpful.

This is tremendously powerful. Why? You have given your users a CHOICE – and the psychology of choice is what drives all human beings. By providing the non-affiliate link to the product, you are coming off as honest, helpful and unbiased – even if you are biased.

By the way, most people will click on the affiliate link out of appreciation for your honesty.

2) Submit your “review” to Ezinearticles.com or GoArticles.com. These are both beasts of the article submission world and Google treats them like VIP members in the top 10 search results. Write your article and submit it to Ezinearticles.com, but make sure you have real, helpful content for the users to read.

Note: there is an entire process for submitting to Ezinearticles – it’s somewhat of a skill and requires an article all on it’s own. Check back for more on this.

Once you have submitted your article to EA or GA, they will be given much more weight by Google, and if you do things right, can appear on the first page of search results for your chosen keywords.

3) Make the site more authentically “review”. Don’t make every review point towards a paying end. Give away information freely. Remember, this is what people are looking for anyway – information, not ways to empty their pockets.

Perhaps this should be number 1, but it’s common sense. Give the readers what they are looking for. If you think about what you target audience really wants and you apply what is taught on this blog, you’ll be able to market to them anyway.

Stay tuned for the third and final part of this series on how to prevent or overcome a Google Slap.

I have read the FAQs and checked for similar issues: YES / NO
My site’s URL is:
Description (including timeline of any changes made):
Hi,
I am looking at using a time saving affiliate program called It converts existing links to affiliate links. I do not think they employ no follow .
They seem reputable and they claim many high profile sites use them. Nonetheless, I am always cautious with things like this and wondered if anybody here could shed light on whether the skimlinks program and it’s publishers might incur a google slap in relation to paid links or anything else for that matter.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Make sure that you don't reveal to any of your computer-illiterate friends that you have ads on your site (so they won't click-bomb you). Also, try to avoid using swear words or inappropriate content on your site in the first few months of using Ad-Sense. If you follow these, you will probably not get banned.

Well first off most states you will be arrested for driving on suspended if not arrested then you get a huge ticket that adds a new charge + more fines and more court costs that have to be taken care of before they will reinstate his license.

Nobody wants to take on a potential problem if they don't have to, whether a university or a business. That being said, there's no harm in sending an application and see what happens. The worst that could happen would be to get turned down and lose the application fee. BUT, don't drop out of your current university until you have gotten a positive response.

10 foreclosures for every home saved

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — The Obama administration’s mortgage-modification
program is not keeping pace with the deluge of foreclosures hitting the
market, a government watchdog found.

Only 168,708 homeowners have received long-term mortgage
modifications
under the president’s plan, as of February, a small fraction of the 6
million borrowers who are more than 60 days behind on their loans, according
to the Congressional Oversight Panel’s latest report, released Wednesday.
The president’s foreclosure-prevention plan will likely assist only 1
million troubled borrowers, short of the administration’s original goal of
up to 4 million homeowners. The program is funded with $50 billion in
Troubled Assets Relief, or TARP, funds, putting it under the panel’s
purview.

“For every borrower who avoided foreclosure through HAMP last year, another
10 families lost their homes,” the panel said of the administration’s Home
Affordable Modification Program. “It now seems clear that Treasury’s
programs, even when they are fully operational, will not reach the
overwhelming majority of homeowners in trouble.”

I just seen this add for a program called google goggles that says that the program will help prevent future slaps and how to fix an already slapped account.

I'm using it now and the results are pretty good.

here is the link if you want to see what it is all about

A federal judge yesterday bench slapped the Recording Industry of America, calling a jury’s $675,000 verdict against file sharer Joel Tenenbaum both eye-popping and unconstitutional. The judge struck a strikingly populist tone in reducing the verdict to $67,500, arguing that the same legal reasoning that protects large corporations from excessive punitive damages also protects “ordinary people” like Tenenbaum. The judge could have reduced the verdict in two ways. One, called remittitur would have required the RIAA to consent to a reduced verdict, which, obviously, they would not do. That would result in a new trial, back to square one. Rather…
