Google Slap! How to Appease the Google God and Get Your Marketing Groove Back Part 3

by Wolf Benedict on February 18, 2010

You’ve experienced a Google Slap and wanna get your marketing mojo and Adwords account back. This is the last part of this three-part series.

In the last two parts, we talked about the Google Slap and how you can overcome it or avoid it entirely. We discussed items 1 through 3 below and will discuss number 4 in this one.

1) Duplicate websites

2) Affiliate websites (including those “salesletter” ones you see)

3) “Review” websites that were actually a slick salesletter (or had affiliate links)

4) Websites with limited or unoriginal content

Number 4 above is probably the most important aspect of them all. Perhaps it should be listed at #1 as this was the main reason many websites were disabled. Many websites pre-slap were merely copies of other websites, such as are found with affiliate programs and downline-based companies (MLM).

Your website must offer unique, ORIGINAL content for it to be immune to a Google Slap. This means that stock landing page you have with your “opportunity” is a no-go – get it customized and made your own.

Gone are the days of “carbon copying” a template site. Gone are the days of stock pages everybody in your downline can use. Your page must have your own original voice, content and design if you want immunity to the dreaded slap, and if you have any hopes or rising up to stellar rankings within Google.

Also – VERY IMPORTANT – keep in mind the following:

1) You must get your own domain name. If you have your page hosted on your company’s server using their domain, you can bet you will be slapped, suspended or otherwise denied.

For example, let’s say your company’s website is YourWebsiteHere.net, and your own page is named ”mypage.html”. The domain would look like this:

http://www.yourwebsitehere.net/mypage.html

In essence, you are using your company’s domain to host your own stock landing page. Now add all of the other pages other people are using on the same site and you have the Google Slap demon jumping all over the site disabling people’s Adword campaigns and organic listings.

Why?

Google sees multiple similar pages on one server and says “Uh oh, unoriginal, duplicated content – delete them from our listings!”

Remember, Google is looking for original content and penalizes those with duplicated pages. Create your own custom page with original content not seen anywhere else.

This leads us perfectly into number 2…

2) If you are going to create your own custom page, you’ll need hosting. If your company offers it, you may take it – with this very important caveat: Google may have slapped the entire server upon which is hosts it’s pages. Make sure you understand if this is the case with your company or not before you decide to host with them. This is critical - don’t ignore this!

I’ve chosen Dreamhost. I’ve been with them for years and they are STELLAR. Not only are they super helpful and polite, but they’re FAST and will bend over backwards for you to get things done. I once had an issue late at night, submitted a helpdesk ticket and they got back to me in an less than an hour with a solution (I wonder if they’re allowed to sleep?)

They are also super fast and very sensitive to your level of expertise, so if you are “technically challenged”, no worries. There are no dumb questions.

They are also VERY competitively priced. Check out their pricing chart. They’re really a happy bunch and I couldn’t recommend them more. Visit them here.

3) Contact Google. Pretty obvious, but lots of folks would assume that Google is too busy, big and “corporate” for you to get any useful response from them. Don’t let that misconception stop you from contacting them and communicating with them to get back on track. Just ask them what they require for compliance and then execute it. Follow up with them to let them know you have complied and would like to submit for review.

There we have it. The bulk of the tips in the past three articles should help you to avoid the ugly reality of a Google Slap and aid you in getting your marketing mojo back. If your accounts have been cancelled, suspended or delisted, these tips should help you get back on track.

The terms “geothermal” and water “furnace” are misnomers! What these units function as is better called “Thermal Exchangers”. In winter heating they “collect” stored (mostly) solar heat from warmer underground which they thermally exchange and in summer they reverse their “exchanger” operation and thus “dissipate” excess solar heat collected inside the house to the cooler underground. The term geothermal refers to “hot spring” volcanic heat from beneath the earth’s mantle – not this!

The Queen represents the unity of the nation. The monarch hasn’t had much to do with the daily affairs of government since Charles Ist lost the English civil war in the 17th century.

Apparently, Kat Stacks is going to sue Fabolous. I don’t know all the in’s and out’s with their relationship, but apparently, she made a plea to Fab NOT to release the video of her getting beat down by a person that is allegedly Paul Cain, Fab’s bro. This all went down in Atlanta at a bar. Not sure when. After Kat was slapped once, she was slapped

man i feel your pain. the google slap happened to me a couple of months ago. my account was pretty much screwed.

I just seen this add for a program called google goggles that says that the program will help prevent future slaps and how to fix an already slapped account.

I'm using it now and the results are pretty good.

here is the link if you want to see what it is all about

GIRL DIED IN 1993, A MAN BURIED HER IN HER OWN home when she was still alive. The murderer chanted, “Toma sota balcu” as he buried her. Now that you have read the chant, you will meet this little girl. In the middle of the night she will stand at the side of your bed starring straight int your eyes. She will suffocate ………you like she was suffocated. This story is sadly true. If you post this 5 different times she will no

Sustainable food is no stranger to the troublesome practice of “greenwashing.” Produce and products are frequently slapped with labels such as “natural”, “free-range” and “local” with the intention of enticing shoppers, when the accuracy of those claims are questionable and in some cases, outright duplicitous. A recent article in the New Haven Independent revealed that Yale’s new outdoor market, the “Uncommon Market,” was promoting produce as “local” and “sustainable.” In reality, the fruits and veggies were shipped from across the country. And while the goal of increasing access to healthy foods is admirable and lowering prices through institutional purchases is an intriguing concept, the mislabeling of the market’s offerings highlights the urgent need to address the accuracy of “sustainable” foods’ labels. Melina Shannon-DiPietro, director of the Yale Sustainable Food Project, responded to the “Uncommon Market” exposé – amusingly referred to as “TomatoGate” – in an excellent article…
