Thinking of getting involved in an MLM or »”>network marketing opportunity? Read this blunt “Judge Judy” style article.
If you want to join an MLM or another home-based business sytem, there are a few things you need to know.
First, be prepared for a monstrous, seemingly endless amount of WORK.
Yes, this is a painful truth for all of the Get-Rich-Quick crowd, whom I affectionately call “GRQs” (pronounced “jerks”).
Beyond that spiffy, exciting, promising headline and squeeze video landing page is months, and even years of learning, adjusting, frustration, denial, delay, and pure, honest-to-goodness HARD WORK.
The $39.95 you spent to earn $100,000 per month just ain’t gonna happen. There is MUCH more to invest in money and time in order to get to that point.
What do I mean by hard work?
Let’s get one thing straight. ”Hard work” definitely does NOT mean “part-time” or “FREE fill-in-the-blank”. These salesletters that promise you can earn $25,000 per month “in as little as 90 days working part-time from home” or “FREE downline generation” are using carrot-on-a-stick marketing tactics to get you to separate from your money.
It’s hype, plain and simple. Misdirected excitement.
And I don’t like hype. In fact, I like it just about as much as I like a cobra biting me in the eye.
So what’s the not-so-shocking truth? I just mentioned it above – it takes hard work to create and sustain a successful MLM or network marketing home-based business.
And by hard work, I mean 12 hour days, 6 or 7 days a week. You’ll be working harder on your MLM or network marketing business than you ever did at your J-O-B. For the first few months AT LEAST.
You’ll be working harder, longer, and spending more than you’ve spent before in capital than you’ve ever spent before.
Now at this point, most people would be turned off. Understand this isn’t meant to discourage you – not at all. In fact, it’s meant to inspire you to something greater, because all of the value in the world has come from the fruits of hard work.
I’m also enlightening you to the common experience.
Be prepared for:
1) Massive delay - You aren’t going to earn thousands in a week in the beginning. In fact, in all likelihood, you will NOT earn one single cent of you investment capital back within the first few months. Profits take TIME, and a TON of sweat. Do not expect a healthy ROI within the first few months (3-5, or even up to 8 months of constant, machine-like work).
2) Massive frustration – this goes hand-in-hand with the massive delay above. You are going to feel frustrated at not getting “instant” or even “reasonable” results within the first few of months. But frustration can be countered with a healthy dose of self-development. Reading books of insight, like Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Work Week can lighten the mental load we place on ourselves.
3) Overwhelm – you have a 9 to 5 job and work on your business when you get home, but realized there are only a few hours in a day to complete everything you want (or need) to do. Plus, the sheer amount of training your system provides is nothing short of flabbergasting. It makes the prospect of finally “making it” seem far away.
You WILL be overwhelmed, because most people aren’t prepared for what they have to learn to be successful. Those preachy salesletters make it sound so easy.
It isn’t easy. At all.
Simple… but not easy.
If you feel overwhelmed, that’s a good sign. It shows your brain is outgrowing former modes of complacency. It’s adapting to new stimuli and developing your skills.
4) Bewilderment – everyone else is getting the results you want. You are struggling, doing your best and wonder why you haven’t gotten to their level yet.
Why is this?
It’s really fatiguing to put forth so much effort on something only to see the “leaders” in your company taking the spotlight week after week, month after month on the “superstar boards.”
When is it going to be your turn? When will you start pulling in the leads, the actual sales? When will all of your effort pan out?
Assuming you really are working your tail off, it’s really not totally your fault you haven’t gotten results. It’s a matter of perception.
You ask these questions and are befuddled because you only see those who are achieving, those on the front lines of the marketing battle, and then mistakenly make it a global belief about everyone in the company.
“Why is everyone getting ahead except for me?” “Why am I the only one who doesn’t get it?” These are disempowering global beliefs.
Instead of understanding that the “winners” you see are only a small percentage of people who are successful, you make a generalization about EVERYONE, and in this case, everyone in the company.
You never see the higher percentage of people who are struggling to make it work, are experiencing delay or doing nothing at all. If you knew this amount, your global belief would vaporize.
No company EVER highlights the failures or the people who have dropped out. They only spotlight winners and achievers.
How to overcome this tendency – realize that making a global belief like that is analagous to smashing yourself in the face with a big red brick. It doesn’t help you, it hurts, and it wastes your potential. So they earn $100,000 per month. So what? What’s that really got to do with you?
Do you have any idea what kind of sacrifice and work load it took for them to get there? (Read this article again to get an idea, then multiply it by about 50.)
Let go of making those global kinds of beliefs. You are never alone.
Now this all seems a bit daunting, doesn’t it? I know it was (and sometimes it still is) for me. It may sound like I’m being negative or shooing you away from being involved in network marketing or MLM.
In no way am I doing that. On the contrary, I want to EDUCATE you so you can qualify yourself to the industry. I am saving you from disappointments, unmet expectations and giving you blunt honesty. And as an added bonus, I’m letting you see the value of good, honest, hard work.
Because you know what? This is an industry of hard working folks, and people who care about success and the success of others. Or that’s how it should be. The snazzy salesletters you see everywhere – they’re just disingenuous distractions.
Now here are the rewards of all that hard work:
1) You become much more valuable as a person.
2) You develop yourself and your appreciation for what you can accomplish. You start liking yourself more and more.
3) Financial freedom – I hope that was a given. But yes, owning that Ferrari can be quite nice. Quite nice.
Not having to worry about what card to use when you go the grocery store? That’s very nice, too.
Buying what you want when you want it? Wonderfully freeing.
But in the end, it’s really about the person you have become on the journey. Discovering who you are capable of being is the hardest thing you will do, but it’s ultimately the ONLY thing we are doing anyway.
And developing a home-based business is the perfect way to do it:

The ability to reprogram the immune system is one of the most sought-after goals in medicine. Now researchers are closer than ever to pulling it off in patients with Type 1 diabetes, one of whom happens to be our correspondent A sign rests on the windowsill in the office of Jeffrey Bluestone, director of the Immune Tolerance Network and the Diabetes Center at the University of California at San Francisco. Measuring nearly three feet across, it reads “Club Bluestone” in pink and blue neon. It’s the sort of artifact you’d expect to find in a bar. But Bluestone is a world-renowned immunobiologist; his father-in-law had the sign made for him in the late 1980s when Bluestone was working long hours in his lab at the University of Chicago. As the night wore on and their energy faded, he and his colleagues would turn out the lights, turn on the sign and, propelled by the power of Bruce Springsteen, push forward with their research. “It was our version of partying,” he says. Bluestone has…

Hello thanks for following me, have a great weekend and don't work too hard on NLP practitioners programme!
There is no other way to do it successfully than to start out in your warm market. Studies have shown that anyone who is over 21 years old knows over 10,000 people. Surely you have 100 you could speak to. Here's how I did mine. Instead of asking them to buy product, ask them who they know that might need your help. If its a product or service that truly helps people, they won't hesitate to share names with you.
Your warm market is your training ground. They will forgive you if you don't know everything there is to know about your company. Once you've been trained in your warm market, you should be good enough to move on to your cold market. (There's a reason they call it 'cold' market)
The beauty of your network marketing group (if they are any good) is in that they have a system in place for people to be successful. If you are not willing to follow the system, you need to get out. There is a saying in network marketing. "People need to be coachable. If they are not coachable one of two things happens — they quit or they become coachable".
Make sure you are in an organization where your upline is willing to work with you every day. If they are not, quit and find one where this happens, or start calling upline. Call to your first upline National. If they are not available, call your second upline National, as high as it takes to find someone willing to mentor you, and then plant yourself at their feet. If you cannot find anyone willing to work with you on a daily basis, start looking for another company.
I have made it to Senior Regional Sales director with over 100 people under me within 6 months. I've done it by staying in contact with my National every day.
If you're looking for another company, I would be happy to give you my insight into the ones I've been associated with over the years — both good and bad. Email me with your ?'s
